John X is a regular college student. On any given night if he wishes to have a poker gambling session, he is able to call up several friends and he will have a game going in a matter of minutes. John says that out of all his friends, only one of them is NOT into gambling and that poker is the given pastime for him and his friends on a college night. Gambling is so widespread amongst college students, especially boys, and the popularity is rising every day. Colleges have poker clubs and even designated rooms that one can find a poker game happening at any given time, almost.

In a recent survey conducted amongst college students, it was found that over 50% of the students, especially males, are into gambling, especially poker. It was stated that 2.9 million people between the ages of 14 and 22 are into gambling on a weekly basis. A vast majority, 80%, were males and the gambling rates were higher for those who attend colleges. As stated, fifty percent of students gamble on cards every week.

Poker and online gambling have exploded in recent years. This is partly because of the million dollar poker tournaments that are broadcast on the TV and partly because of the wide accessibility of internet gambling (despite its illegal status in the United States). All the internet gambling sites in America are based outside of its borders, but this does not make them legal - many states do not allow online casino playing, even off-shore ones. But as John X says - who needs online casinos when we have the live ones here.
